Sir Thomas Herbert's House - Pavement 12–14 Pavement, York, YO1 9UP
A Grade I listed, timber-framed Tudor mansion built around 1545, named after the prominent Herbert merchant and Lord Mayor dynasty (including Sir Thomas Herbert, born 1606). Today, the ground floor is occupied by the York Gin shop.
The narrow medieval alley (snickleway) running alongside Herbert's House takes its name from Lady Alice Peckett.

The Golden Fleece at No.16 Pavement famously claims to be York's most haunted pub.
The ghost most frequently associated with the yard and the adjacent pub is Lady Alice Peckett, the wife of John Peckett (a former Lord Mayor of York who owned the inn in the early 18th century). She is said to drift through the corridors, staircases, and surrounding Lady Peckett's Yard.
The Golden Fleece is reputed to host over a dozen other apparitions, including a 16th-century one-eyed jack, a Victorian-era boy, a Canadian airman from World War II named Geoff Monroe, and various spirits tied to the building's history as a holding area for criminals.
