York Open Studios is an annual community arts event providing an opportunity for the public to visit artists’ studios and workshops within a ten-mile radius of the city centre, showcasing some of the best artists and makers in the city.
Sir Thomas Herbert’s House, 12–14 Pavement, York, YO1 9UP. A Grade I listed, timber-framed Tudor mansion built around 1545, named after the prominent Herbert merchant and Lord Mayor dynasty (including Sir Thomas Herbert, born 1606).
The mid‑20th century was a golden era for cinema. Hollywood was booming, European studios were experimenting, and Finland – quietly but confidently – was developing its own visual language for film promotion.
